MEMBERS PARTICIPATE
IN ANNUAL TRAIN DAY |
|
October
6, 2001
- This Saturday members from the Manassas Volunteer
Fire Company brought Wagon and Tower 1, along with
units from the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue
Squad. to take part in the
Nineteenth Annual Fall Jubilee presented by The
Washington Post in the streets of historic Old Town
Manassas. The Fall Jubilee is a community-spirited
family-oriented event, which included live music,
rides such as a Kiddie Ferris Wheel, and the ever
popular Moon bounce. There were booths of handmade
arts and crafts, educational exhibits with
interesting community and local information, and the
“Festival of Foods Pavilion” where visitors could
enjoy a wide variety of foods from funnel cakes and
ice cream to gourmet frankfurters, regional
foods such as Virginia food mixes, popcorn, fresh
baked breads and Virginia wines. The Fire Company
had their apparatus on static display giving tours
and answering questions from patrons and offering
stickers and plastic fire helmets to the children.
The Rescue Squad demonstrated a vehicle extrication.
During the event at 1319 hrs, the Wagon responded to
9200 Prescott Avenue for a brush fire. On arrival
the crew found several bails of hay that had been
lit off by flames underneath a large kettle that was
being used to cook food as part of the festivities.
The crew quickly extinguished the fire and returned
to the festival until 1600 hrs, when the festival
closed. |
