FDNY "THANK YOU
AMERICA" BIKE TOUR COMES THROUGH MANASSAS |

November

-
This
Wednesday night, five firefighters from Engine
33-Ladder 9 of the New York City Fire Department
arrived in Manassas on their
"Thank You America Bike Tour.”
These firefighters are biking across the country to
thank everyone for the love and support that they
received after the September 11th tragedy. They
wanted to keep alive and honor the memory of the
lost rescue workers and civilian victims, to give
first hand testimony of the events of September 11th
from a firefighter's viewpoint, and to promote
healing throughout the country. The riders
consisted of Dan Rowen, the event organizer, Sal
Princiotta, Matt Hornung, Drew Robb, and Gerard
Dolan. Engine 1-1 and Attack 1 led the bikers from
the city limits to the firehouse where they were
greeted by the rest of the Fire Company and held a
small press conference for the local media. They
also enjoyed a good spaghetti dinner that was
donated by Tony’s New York Pizza restaurant which is
a favorite of the Manassas Fireman. After the meal
the bikers were treated to a 20-minute massage that
was donated by Heart in Hand massage, located across
the street from the station. Manassas firefighters
talked with the New York firefighters into the wee
hours of the night discussing such things as
everyday station life to the collapse of the World
Trade Towers. The next morning, prior to their
departure from Manassas, the riders were given the
Key to the City from City Councilman Steve
Randolph. The Tour was then escorted from the
firehouse to the City Limits by the career staff
with Wagon 1 and Tower 1. |
