As Mr. Baker was
getting ready for work, he noticed his house was
filling with smoke. He place a call to the Manassas
City Police Department and he, his wife and their
dog evacuated the home. At 0709 hrs The Manassas
Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to 9121 Weir
Place for the house fire. Engine 1-2, Wagon 1 and
Tower 1 arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming
from the basement area and first floor of the home.
A 2nd alarm was requested as crews began attacking
the fire which was started by an over-heated wood
stove and was now burning swiftly through the
majority of the home. Crews from Manassas operated
150', 200', and 300' inch and a half lines and one
200' 2 inch line. With the bulk of the fire knocked
down, crews started checking for extension. It
wasn't hard to find as the attic quickly took off.
The roof was vented, the ceiling was opened up, and
the fire was quickly knocked down.
Every
room in the house was damaged by smoke and flames,
from the basement where the woodstove was located to
the attic. The interior was completely gutted by the
blaze, and a compact car parked in a carport
adjoining the dwelling was also destroyed. Crews
went
ready at 1048
hrs. |
