FOAM
ENGINE GOES OUT FOR BRUSH AND FINDS FIRE FROM MULTIPLE
HOUSES |
|
April
07, 2010
– At 1712 hours, the Foam Engine responded on a local
alarm for brush to the rear of 8340 Shady Grove Circle.
Battalion 581 (Holman), just around the corner,
arrived quickly on scene to find fire spreading from
a fence in the rear to other debris in the yard. At
the same time, Chief 501 (Stern) received a
supplement on his alphanumeric pager indicating
multiple callers reporting a house fire in the same
area. Chief 501 requested box 81-01 be filled out.
By this time, the Foam Engine (Halman) was on the
scene and quickly stretching their 250' of 2 1/2" to
the fire where they put both 1 1/2" high-rise bags
in service off of the gated wye. In the rear, the
Foam Engine found a large volume of fire completely
involving one townhouse and extending to both
exposures. Chief 501 arrived at the corrected
address of 9299
Bayberry Avenue and, seeing heavy smoke pushing out from
the eves of three town homes, requested a second
alarm. The Foam Engine's crew did an excellent job
of stopping the fire from spreading beyond the
initial fire building. Wagon 509, second due, took
side A and extinguished fire on all three levels of
the town home while Tower 501's crew preformed a
primary search, laddered the roof, and opened up. In
addition, the Tower and Wagon 509 found fire in the
cockloft, which was quickly extinguished. Chief 501
had the command. Most of the mutual aid companies
were quickly returned while Company 1 units remained
on scene overhauling till 2100 hours. Thanks to all
the companies who responded on this box alarm for
their assistance. |
