AIRCARE LANDS IN THE CITY

August 23, 2004 - This evening Manassas City Fire Communications dispatched Wagon 501 to set up a landing zone for an AirCare Medivac helicopter. Medic 501 had an adult male with a head injury which required a flyout to a trauma center. The landing zone was established in front of Giant Food on Dumfries Rd. Setting up landing zones for medivacs is a routine task for Engine Company 501. AirCare, which is based at Manassas Regional Airport, is usually the helicopter that transports patients from our area.  However, sometimes other helicopters such as Med Star or Fairfax 1 are called in situations where AirCare is not availible or more than two patients need to be flown.
