CHRISTMAS EVE BRINGS THE USUAL AND AN MVA WITH EJECTION
|
|
December
24 2006
- Manassas Volunteers, manning the Engine and Truck on
Christmas Eve were on the road early and often. Crews
answered a dozen runs before finally sitting down to a
9:30pm steak dinner with members of the Rescue Squad.
Everything from an auto to the usual bells and medical
calls were answered during this time. The most serious
being a hit and run accident at Church and Grant in Old
Town Manassas. Around 1730 hours the Foam Engine and
Medic unit along with Battalion 581 were alerted for a
personal injury accident at that box location. While
units were on the way, communications reported that
multiple vehicles were involved and one person was
possibly ejected. The Foam Engine quickly requested a
nearby Medic 509, which had just cleared the hospital as
well as Truck 501. The Foam Engine arrived on the scene
with several vehicles involved and an assortment of
injured persons scattered throughout the area. The most
serious being a passenger in a minivan that had been
struck at a high rate of speed, ejecting them through
the side window. The Foam Engine’s officer (Lt. Rose)
quickly requested and additional medic unit along with a
Helicopter, and established the “Old Town” command.
Medics 501 and 509 worked on the passenger that had been
ejected while the Foam Engine evaluated the others.
Ambulance 511 transported one person by ground to Prince
William Hospital while Medic 501 transported the other
to the LZ. Engine 509 had the landing zone at nearby
Osbourn High School. Battalion 581 (Capt. Campbell)
assumed the command upon his arrival and all units
cleared shortly after 1800. |
