MEMBERS SHARPEN TRUCK
SKILLS OVER THE WEEKEND IN
RICHMOND |
| February 27, 2004 - Members of the
Manassas Volunteer Fire Company attended a Truck
Company Operations class in Richmond, Virginia
this past weekend. The class, instructed by
Lt. Jake Rixner (2 Truck, Richmond), Lt. Mark
Gregory (111 Truck, FDNY), FF Jim Sandas, FF Duane
Wood and retired Lt. Pete Lund from (Rescue 2,
FDNY), Deputy Chief Mick McKenzie (Kentland,
PG Co. 33) and Chief Al Minjock, (Elizabeth
Township Fire), covered basic truck company
operations, a too often neglected task on many
firegrounds. Crews focus on forcible entry, wall
breeching, peaked and flat roof operations,
search, ventilation and overhaul tactics.
The combined fire fighting experience of the
instructors added to the realism and practicality
of the evolutions which focused on getting back to
basics. |

HI ANGLE TECHNICAL RESCUE
TRAINING |
| February 23, 2004 - Manassas Fireman
today practiced removing injured patients via a
stokes basket. Firemen may have to perform this
operation to remove a victim from any type of
above or below grade rescue. During this scenario,
firemen used Tower 501 as a crane to lower the
patient to the ground. In November, the
Tower's crew removed an injured worker from a
third floor scaffolding via the stokes
basket. |
