TOWER FIRST IN ON MACHINERY FIRE IN THE COUNTY

February 26, 2007 - At 1113 hours today, mutual box 11-20 was sounded for fire in an industrial building at 8624 JD Reading Drive, bringing Tower 501 as the first due truck. The Tower arrived first and found smoke showing from a Wheelabrator. The Tower's crew laddered the unit and opened up the hatch for the engine company. With the fire knocked down the unit, which contained over 300 filter bags, was overhauled. The Tower went ready at 1158.

HAZMAT LOCAL IN THE MIDDLE OF BREAKFAST

February 22, 2007 - The members of the Manassas Volunteer Fire Company would like to take a moment to let the Reynolds Food Service Company know that we appreciate the magnificently fine foil products which they manufacture. Without their 1000 foot roll of Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil, many a meal, such as this morning's breakfast, would be ruined. With that out of the way, on to the run. At 0744 hours, the local was sounded for a fuel spill at 10299 Dumfries Road. The Foam Engine and Hazmat Unit arrived to find a 25 Gallon spill at the pumps. Apparently, the person who was fueling their vehicle let it overflow just a tad and, instead of notifying the clerk or hitting the emergency stop, just drove off. Crews contained the spill and left the scene with the Fire Marshall and the cops. Crews went ready within 20 minutes and returned to quarters and their superb breakfast.

ENGINE, TOWER, AND THE CHIEF ON BUCKHALL HOUSE FIRE

February 07, 2007 - At 1646 hours, mutual box 16-08 was sounded for fire in an occupied dwelling at 7001 Bruin Court, bringing Foam Engine 501 second due, the Tower first due, and the Chief. Wagon 516 arrived and reported fire showing from the garage and, with the report of a possible victim inside, requested a second alarm. The Foam Engine and Tower arrived quickly after Wagon 516. Tower 501's crew rapidly made entry into the home, without the protection of a hose line, and began an aggressive primary search. Through high heat and heavy smoke conditions, the Tower searched the entire home with no victims found. The Foam Engine picked up 516's layout and setup for rural water supply. The Foam Engine's crew advanced a second line and initially backed 516, who were knocking down the garage from the driveway. The Foam Engine then made entry into the home but were quickly pulled out by command due to concerns over the fire conditions. The Tower's ladder pipe, also supplied by the Foam Engine, was place in service briefly to get a kick knock on the fire. With that complete, the order was given for the Foam Engine to re-enter the building. They extended the line with a high rise bag and, once more made entry through the garage. When inside, they made a push for the second floor but were again ordered out by command as fire came from the roof. Crews operated exterior again and quickly got a good knock on the fire. The Foam Engine's and Tower's crews, along with other companies, entered the building a third time and operated inside till the fire was under control. Company 1 fire units cleared the scene at 1926 hours.

GEORGE W COMES TO MANASSAS

February 06, 2007 - This morning the Foam Engine went on the air to Micron Technology’s semiconductor fabrication facility located at 9600 Godwin Drive for a Presidential Landing detail. The facility recently spent $3.5 billion to upgrade their Manassas plant, which has resulted in the creation of more than 1,000 new jobs in the past year. President George W. Bush addressed an employee audience on the economy and fiscal responsibility in appreciation for Micron's help in supporting the national economy through continued investment and job creation. President Bush also briefly greeted a few members of the fire department and was rumored to have asked what was for lunch back at the house and if there was an open seat on the couch for the afternoon nap.
