ENGINE RUNS 3RD DUE TO WORKING FIRE IN THE COUNTY |
|
January
25, 2006 - Just after 0800 hrs this morning, Prince
William County Fire Communications began receiving 911
calls reporting a house fire at 8207 Lomond South Drive.
At 0821 hrs, box 11-16 was sounded bringing Engine 501A
from the City as the 3rd due engine company. While units
were responding, communications informed the units that
callers were reporting visible fire from the home. Truck
511 arrived first and announced the working fire. Once
crews were inside they found a room off on the first
floor. While Engine 511 was getting a line on that,
Engine 508 began a search of the second floor. Engine
511 reported the bulk of the fire on the first floor was
knocked down, but they believed it had made its way into
the attic. Engine 501A arrived with a secondary hydrant
and reported to command. Engine 508 was ordered by the
Chief to come down to the first floor and the crew from
Engine 501A was ordered to the second floor and get into
the roof. Their crew found a large amount of fire
throughout the entire attic. Engine 501A's Officer,
along with members of Truck 511 aggressively hooked the
ceiling while 501's lineman extinguished all the fire
back to its point of origin. With the fire in the attic
out, Engine 501A's crew came out and exchanged bottles.
They were then ordered by Command to complete a search
of the first floor and garage. With that clear, Command
had them report to the second floor to ventilate and
extinguish some extension in the exterior wall of the
delta quadrant. With all fire extinguished, crews began
overhaul and the Engine went ready at 0949 hrs. The
Manassas Journal Messenger reported that the fire
displaced at least six adults and three children,
and that it originated in a bedroom on the ground
level, after one of the children accidentally
knocked a candle into a trash can. |
