ENGINE AND RESCUE REMOVE ONE AFTER SERIOUS CRASH

January 15 2007 - At 0112 hours, Manassas City Fire Communications dispatched the rescue local for a personal injury accident with the report of one trapped in the front yard of 9019 Sudley road. Crews arrived to find a single passenger vehicle that had run slightly astray, hit a telephone pole, bounced off, and then went head on into tree, coming to rest just past that. The unrestrained patient was tapped between passenger seat and the passenger side B post. The Engine immediately provided initial patient care and began to remove the hazards. As the Medics arrived, patient care was transferred to them and the Engine's crew assisted the Rescue Squad in deploying and operating their tools. The Engine's crew stabilized the car and operated a spreader, cutter and sawzall while the Squad used the combi. Both crews worked quickly to take roof and flap the passenger side. The patient was removed in 10 minutes. Quint 509 handled LZ and the patient was airlifted to a local trauma center with life threatening injuries. The Engine cleared the scene at 0149 hours.
