|
January 26
2007
- At 1643 hours this afternoon, Hazmat Support 501 was
placed on the Hazmat Taskforce Alarm for a chemical spill
at 5180 Dale Boulevard, the Skate Quest Ice Rink, on
mutual box 18-05. On arrival, crews found a 400 pound
refrigerant tank leaking. The leak was the result of
maintenance on a compressor which caused a substantial
release of liquid ammonia. The crew from Hazmat Support
501 performed initial recon, damning, and decon for the
state hazmat crews which where special called from
Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. The leak
was fully contained within three hours and none of the
surrounding occupancies where displaced. Hazmat Support
501 cleared the scene at 2226 hours. |

what to do for lunch, City Fire Communications
transmitted box 81-01 for fire in the home at 8216 Warfield Street.

home with smoke showing. The Engine and Tower arrived
quickly behind the Chief and located a fire in the

arrival of any other companies. The conflagration
apparently was started by a defective microwave and
swiftly involved the cabinets. Company 1 fire units
cleared the scene within 45 minutes. |

ENGINE AND
RESCUE REMOVE ONE AFTER SERIOUS CRASH |
|
January 15
2007
- At 0112 hours, Manassas City Fire Communications
dispatched the rescue local for a personal injury
accident with the report of one trapped in the front
yard of 9019 Sudley road. Crews arrived to find a single
passenger vehicle that had run slightly astray, hit a telephone pole, bounced off,
and then went head on into
tree, coming to rest just past that. The unrestrained
patient was tapped between passenger seat and the
passenger side B post. The Engine immediately provided
initial patient care and began to remove the hazards. As
the Medics arrived, patient care was transferred to them
and the Engine's crew assisted the Rescue Squad in
deploying and operating their tools. The Engine's crew stabilized the car and operated
a spreader, cutter and sawzall while the Squad used the combi.
Both crews worked quickly to take roof and flap the passenger side.
The patient was removed
in 10 minutes. Quint 509 handled LZ and the patient was
airlifted to a local trauma center with life threatening
injuries. The Engine cleared the scene at 0149 hours. |

THE BOYS
VISIT THE EAST-END FOR A STATION COVER |
|
January 13
2007
- The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company gladly sent a crew
down to OWL Station 14 this evening to provide an engine
co. during 14's banquet. Notwithstanding a handful of
medical locals, and a few needless boxes, the night was
relatively quiet; aside from a nearly catastrophic
accident involving a bunk bed that required some
additional shoring. The boys did manage to figure out
that 14's wagon will fit through the drive through at
the McDonalds: Which is good to know incase the guys
from 14 ever get a craving for Mickey-Ds after they lock
up the doors at 11pm and refuse to serve you unless you
bring a fire truck through the drive through
(Ridiculous!!) We appreciate being able to provide
coverage for our brothers and look forward to doing it
again in the future. |

ENGINE,
TOWER, AND CHIEF ON LAKE JACKSON HOUSE FIRE |
|
January 11
2007
- At 1156 hours, mutual box 07-06 was sounded for fire
in a house at 8250 Lakeshore Drive. With the Engine from
507
already out on another run, Engine 501 was assigned the
second due position. Tower 501 arrived with the first due
company, Engine 506. The Tower's crew, without the
protection of a hose line, advanced ahead of the engine
company and aggressively began a primary search. In the
process, they located fire on the
first floor, and held it in check with the can until the
engine company showed up. The outside crew from the
Tower through ladders, ventilated, and secured the utilities. The
fire appeared to originate in a baseboard heater in the
living room on the
first floor, involving most of that, and spread through
the walls to the ceiling, roof, and a basement utility
room. Crews chased extension for a short while before finally
declaring the fire out.
Engine 501's crew initially backed up 506 and then assisted with opening up.
City Fire units went ready at 1315 hours. |

 |
|
January 5
2007
- At 1744 hours the Engine was sent out on the local

was quickly knocked down and they stood by to assist
FM587 until being released at 1848 hours. |

TOWER 501
RECEIVES ANOTHER AMKUS STAR AWARD |
|
January 5
2007
- Today, the crew from Tower 501 was presented another
AMKUS star award for their actions on June 12,
2006. At 1212 hrs, they were alerted to 14010 Fitzwater
Drive on mutual box 05-08 for an auto accident with
one trapped victim. The Tower's crew, assisted by
other companies, worked hard to quickly extricate the
extremely pinned victim. The patient
was removed in under 20 minutes and flown by
helicopter to a local trauma center. The award was
presented by Tower Lt. James Rose to Master Fire
Technician Kevin Franzello, who was in charge of the
Tower that day. In addition to receiving the award,
AMKUS is using a photo from that extrication in their
2007 ad brochure. The Firefighters of the Manassas Vol.
Fire Co. would like to thank AMKUS for allowing us that
honor, and look forward to our continuing partnership. |
