of the Cheetah underwear.

June
20,
2005 -
The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company added a very
powerful tool, called the PETROGEN® Cutting
Torch System, to Tower 501 today. The Petrogen System,
advertised as “the torch that cuts steel like butter!”
is capable of cutting through up to 14 inches of steel.
Because the Petrogen flame carries the heat all the way
down the cut, this tool allows the user to make such
deep cuts in just one pass. It pierces 1" plate like a
drill, and punches through a 10-inch steel shaft in
under a minute without moving the tip. We started
cutting right away and it is incredibly fast and makes
very clean and smooth cuts because the steel is
completely oxidized by the flame, leaving no molten
steel behind to bind up on the cut. The Petrogen Torch
easily cuts through multiple layers of metal, across air
gaps, through rust, paint, even concrete-backed steel
such as rebar. It can even keep cutting while buried in
sand, dirt, and mud. The torch is fueled with regular
gasoline that is kept liquid from the tank to the tip,
making a fuel line back flash impossible. With gas
stations on every corner and ambulances everywhere, an
additional fuel supply is always readily available. The
Petrogen torch will make a fine addition to the Tower
and its exceptional operating capabilities. |

June
18,
2005 - At about 0800 hrs this Saturday morning, just
as the crew was sitting down for breakfast, a citizen
came into the firehouse reporting a vehicle on fire on
Fairview Ave at Richmond Ave. As the Engine was pulling
out the door, Fire Communications gave the company the
run for a motorcycle on fire at the same location. The
Engine Company found the motorcycle well involved as
well as some fuel burning in the gutter. The crew
quickly extinguished the fire and used oil dry to
extinguish the burning fuel in the gutter. The Engine
went in service in about 20 min.

2 GENIUSES
TAKE A BLIND JUMP OFF BRIDGE WHILE RUNNING FROM THE LAW |
|
June
18,
2005 - Communications woke both the Engine and Tower
crew around 0315 hrs this morning to assist with the
rescue of two individuals who decided to take their
chances leaping over an unlit guardrail in the 8300
block of Quarry Road while being pursued by the cops.
Unfortunately for them, on the other side of the rail
was a twenty foot drop and a rocky creek bed. Fire
Company units along with several units from 1 Rescue
arrived to find both men laying on the rocks and
partially in the water. Crews quickly made their way
down the nearby embankment, the preferred way to get to
the creek bed, and began assessing the patients.
Miraculously, both only had bumps, bruises, and cuts and
were able to be assisted up to the street on foot. After
a more thorough assessment found no additional injuries,
they were placed in the back of the awaiting medic unit
which then transported them to Prince William Hospital;
where the cops were waiting for them. |

ENGINE AND
TOWER ON MANASSAS PARK HOUSE FIRE |
|
June
13,
2005 - At 2027 hrs, Engine, Tower, and Chief
501 responded to 9605 Drake Lane for reported fire in a
house that had been struck by lightening. Wagon 509
arrived with their own hydrant and reported nothing
evident. Engine 501, second due, secured a second water
supply and sent its crew inside. Fire was reported in a
void space near the roof so command had the Tower crew
ladder the building. Crews ascended to the roof with
saws and hooks to open it up, however, they were stopped
because interior crews accessed the void and found only
a small bit of fire. It was quickly extinguished, and
the Engine and Tower remained on scene to help the crew
from 509 check for extension. They went in service at
2124 hrs. Chief 501 (Holman) had command.

FIRST DUE
FIRE IN A GARDEN APARTMENT |
|
June
8,
2005 - For the 3rd day in a row, Manassas City Fire
Communications dispatched units to a working fire.
This time it was to 8885 Oliver Court for
smoke in the building. Engine and Tower 501 and
Battalion 581 arrived to find a 3 story garden style
apartment building with nothing showing. As crews
entered the building they found a light haze in one of
the basement apartments. About that time, Tower 501's
outside vent man, who was in the rear of the building,
advised the crews he could see smoke conditions through
the sliding glass door of the exposure apartment in 8883
Oliver court. Engine 501's line was quickly repositioned
just as the second due company arrived. Two men
from the Tower's crew found fire in the front room of a
basement apartment. As the lineman moved into position,
the rest of the Engine and Towers crew conducted a
primary search and Rescue 501 checked the apartment
above. The fire was quickly extinguished and all
searches were negative. Captain Mike Rohs in
Battalion 581 had command. Units cleared in just
