-At 0430 hrs, Prince William County Fire
Communications put the box out for 9310 Brentsville
Road, bringing the Engine and Tower Ladder with
eight men. As the units were responding,
communications advised that there were up to six
occupants trapped in the home. Normally second due,
Engine 501 arrived first, along with Tanker 507, to find
a
single story detached home with heavy fire
conditions showing from side A. The Engine's crew
wasted no time running the 300 to side C where they,
along with the Tower attempted to make entry and
begin a search. The crew encountered fire and the
worst Colliers Mansion conditions seen in quite some
time, in the back of the home. The Engine's crew was
unable to advance much farther than the first room
due to the accumulated junk inside. At that
point, the Engine's
Officer redeployed half of his crew to
the front with a second line to begin
extinguishment. It was quickly learned that the
occupants of the home had escaped on their own and
the effort was changed by Chief 507 to an exterior
operation. The men from Company 1 backed out of
the building, and began defensive operations. Several tankers supplied Engine 501,
which was flowing multiple lines, with
water until the fire was extinguished. Crews
performed extensive overhaul as part of the roof and
walls collapsed early into the fire. The crews from
Co. 1 were relived on the fireground, and left the
scene just in time to handle an investigation on
their way back to quarters. Relief crews operated
for approximately an hour before finally clearing at
0853 hrs.
