BACK TO BACK AUTO FIRES

October 30, 2003 - Engine 501A was dispatched at 0104 hours an auto in the 12000 block of Caitlin court. Upon arrival Lt. Lausch notified communications they had a mini van well off.  The on duty FM declared the fire suspicious in nature and had the vehicle towed to Manassas police impound for further investigation.  As the Engine was backing into quarters, they were put out for a second auto, just down the street from the fire house.  This time it was the only that was trunk off and they were back in 15 minuets.

FIRST DUE HOUSE FIRE

October 27, 2003 - At 1344 hours, communications dispatched a full assignment on box 8105 for a house fire.  Engine 501A arrived on the scene of a 2 story ordinary residence with light smoke showing.  The Engine's crew quickly stretched an inch and a half attack line through the front door.  Following the garden hose left by the owner, they went up to the smoke filled second floor and located fire in a bedroom.  Tower 501's crew preformed a primary on the fire floor while the driver vented the second floor windows with ground ladders.  The engine crew called for water and got a fast knock on what was actually a closet fire and then hydraulically vented the fire room.  All of this was completed before the closest mutual aid units arrived on scene.  The fire was caused by candles that were left burning which was part of a shrine in a bedroom closet.

AUTO ACCIDENT  WITH ONE TRAPPED

October 27, 2003 - On a rainy Monday afternoon, Engine 501A was dispatched to an auto accident with a report of a trapped victim. They arrived to find a single vehicle into a light pole.  The driver had lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road into a ditch, back onto the road and slammed into the pole on the passenger's side door. On impact, the unrestrained driver's legs were caught by the pedals while the rest of her was flung into the passengers area.  Her head struck the far right edge of the windshield, severely lacerating her face. With a mutual aid medic and truck responding through rush hour traffic, two firefighters from Engine 501A's crew provided patient care while the third and a police officer forced the driver door open with the irons to get her out. The truck was returned and the patient was transported by medic 507 to Prince William Hospital.
