VAN CRASHES INTO A POND ON LUCASVILLE ROAD

September 22, 2007 – At 1924 hours, Engine 501A and Battalion 581 responded to the retention pond at Lucasville Road and Hastings Drive for a personal injury accident with one reported in the water. Engine 501A arrived to find a van that had flip over, crashed through a fence, traveled down a 25’ embankment, and finally came to rest, partially submerged, in 4 feet of water. With the occupant unconscious yet breathing, and half of their body hanging out the passenger side window, the other half pinned inside the vehicle, the Engine crew quickly used the combi-tool to extricate the patient. They then boarded and collared the occupant and removed him via a stokes basket. Wagon 507 was special called to set up an LZ at Wellington Road and Grant Avenue. The patient was flown to a local trauma center. Battalion 581 (Ellis) had the command. Units went ready at 1950 hours.

ENGINE RUNS ANOTHER SHOOTING AND ANOTHER STABBING

September 15, 2007 – Around 1 a.m. early Saturday morning, a Manassas City Police officer found an unconscious man lying on the sidewalk in the 8700 block of Weems Road. The Engine and Medic unit arrived to find CPR in progress on a patient who was suffering from several gun shot wounds. CPR was continued by both units while responding to the hospital, but they were unable to resuscitate the victim. According to the Manassas Journal Messenger, the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot during an armed robbery. The victim was walking with another man, who was also shot at but not injured. Police are still looking for the shooter, who they’ve identified as 18 year old Robert A. Briscoe Jr. He is considered armed and dangerous, and is wanted for one court of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of robbery and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a news release issued late Saturday night. At about the same time City Police released the information about the homicide, the Engine and Medic were back at it again. This time they were headed to 9075 Euclid Avenue, Eastern Motors, for a stabbing. Crews arrived to find a patient that was suffering from a stab wound to the back of the neck. The stabbing was the result of an altercation between two employees, one of which stabbed the other with a ball point pen. The patient was left with the Medic and the Engine returned to service.
